Travel Tryouts Recap • High School Coaches ran most tryouts. Positives definitely outweighed the negatives. • The coaches tryout agenda was different from previous years and it required some adjustments from the coaches / evaluators. • Post Tryout Call Volume was up overall but the intensity of most calls was mild compared to previous years. • Through the Tryout process, we did identify a few grey area items that warrant a closer look.
Travel Tryouts Recap • Open Forum on the Tryouts – What worked and what didn’t? • Ben Leder will Chair a Committee to review our current Travel Team Selection Process and will deliver findings to the Board on out 12/18 Meeting.
WBA - Safety • CORI Forms needed ASAP • www.westwoodbasketball.org • Forms must be completed prior to 1st practice • All Head and Assistant coaches will need to complete a CORI background check • Must have 2 adults at all practices • Do not leave any child unattended following game or practice. • Be smart about coaching actions and know your players will take on the personality of the coach. If you act like an ass, you are setting a really bad example for your players and that lead to safety converns. • Step in if a fellow coach is losing their cool with a player, parent, referee, or fan
WBA - Safety • Sean Kennedy – Safety Coordinator • skennedy103@gmail.com • (781) 858-4089
WBA - Safety • Mouth Guards • WBA strongly encourages all players to use mouth guards at practices and games. Coaches can mandate this on an individual team basis, but the WBA will not mandate mouth guards in order to play. • Metro West and MIAA also strongly encourage the use of mouth guards by all players.

Other MW Guidelines • Zero tolerance for players, coaches, and fans. • Coach responsible for fan behavior. Refs will not continue game if inappropriate behavior continues. • All follow-up regarding opposing team, opposing fan or ref issues, ref issues must be through MW coordinator (do not contact MW administration). • Home team keeps official book. • Home coach pays the refs ($40 for each ref. $60 if only 1 ref).
Cancellations • If gyms remain open, it is up to the coaches to decide if they want to postpone. Visiting team has final say. • If the game is postponed, the coach must: • Post online on MW website • Cancel refs • Notify opposing town MW coordinator • Reschedule time with opposing coach • Reschedule referees (refs will get $50 each if rescheduled as 1-game only). • Non-weather rescheduling can be done only if agreed by both coaches (highly discouraged): only other option is forfeit. • New in 2014: Non-weather-related cancellations within 14 days of game result in $100 fine to MW, $80 paid to referees – total of$180.

Default password is “metrowest” for new coaches. • If “metrowest” does not work, use the “forgot my password” link to get a password. • Update your roster as soon as possible (players are carried over from last year edits are necessary). • When entering scores there will be prompts to fill out a brief questionnaire to evaluate the officials and the opposing teams spectator behavior. • Officials will have similar forms to assess the behavior of coaches and spectators.

Equipment Update • Badger Uniforms for 4th & 5th Grade Teams. • Coaches need to get 5th through 8th Grade Uniform needs ASAP. We have inventory of the A4 uniforms but it is limited. It will be $100 if the Coach does not notify the WBA EC. • Please print out the Players / Parents Code of Conduct and ask the boys and girls to bring them home to their parents to sign and return. Coaching Idea • Teams with 11 or 12 players could offer each of their players one game off throughout the season. You would need to make sure only one or two players select the same game, but this could allow families to get away for a weekend and also help you play with a shorter bench. This would be a great task to delegate to a team parent or Assistant Coach.
Upcoming Board Meetings • Thursday, November 20th from 7:30 – 9:30 • Thursday, December 18th from 7:30 – 9:30
Practice Time Draft • 4th Grade Boys have Friday Night Practices Locked and will not pick their 2nd Practice Time until the end of the draft • Each Grade will draft numbers out of a hat for draft position • 8th Grade Picks 1st followed by 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th Girls and then back to 8th through 4th • 2nd time around, reverse order will be used for grades 8 through 5 • Drafting will be made for the Regular Season (This may be different in November and it is your responsibility to know how this impacts your pick)
Practice Time Draft • DCD Rand Gym will be split into 2 slots. It is strongly recommended that A and B teams of the same grade / gender take the gym and combine portions of practice for skills development. • Martha Jones may have 1st 15 minutes of 6:00 p.m. practice in ½ of the gym while custodian clears the other half following Extended Day clearing out. This should be a huge impact, but take it into consideration before selecting MJ. • High School Slot from 8:30 – 10 will be one team only due to the late slot.
Practice Time Draft • Let the games begin..!!
