  4. Death of Ahaziah • Ahab is dead after reigning 22 years • Ahaziah, son of Ahab and Jezebel, has reigned for 2 years • Ahaziah fell through an upper room window and was injured • He sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub if he would recover

  5. Death of Ahaziah • Elijah is sent to meet the messengers from Ahaziah • God’s message to Ahaziah • 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?‘ • 'You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.'

  6. Death of Ahaziah • Ahaziah’s men return with the message from Elijah • Ahaziah knew the message was from Elijah so he sent men to get Elijah • The captain ‘ordered’ Elijah to come to the king • Elijah responded with fire from heaven that devoured them

  7. Death of Ahaziah • Ahaziah sent another captain with his 50 men • Again the ‘order’ to come to the king • Again Elijah called fire from heaven to consume them • A third captain and men are sent • This captain responds reverently to Elijah as the prophet of God

  8. Death of Ahaziah • Now Elijah can go to Ahaziah without fear for his life • The might of the Lord has been shown • Elijah delivers the Lord’s message to Ahaziah • 'Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.'

  9. Death of Ahaziah • Ahaziah dies according to the words of Elijah • Ahaziah had no son • His brother Jehoram, son of Ahab and Jezebel, is king in his place • Jehoshaphat continues as king in Judah • Lesson: what God says will come to pass

  10. Elijah to Elisha • God is about to take Elijah to heaven in a whirlwind • Elijah tells Elisha to stay while he goes to Bethel • Elisha will not leave Elijah • Sons of the prophets come and tell Elisha what is about to happen • Elisha knows but is not talking about it

  11. Elijah to Elisha • Elijah tells Elisha to stay while he goes to Jericho • Elisha will not leave Elijah • Sons of the prophets come to Elisha at Jericho and tell what is about to happen • Elisha knows but is not talking about it

  12. Elijah to Elisha • Elijah asks Elisha what he can do for him before he is taken away • Elisha asks for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit • Elijah says he has asked for a hard thing • They are separated by a chariot and horses of fire • Elijah is taken up to heaven in a whirlwind

  13. Elisha, the Prophet • Elisha cries out as his mentor is taken away • Elijah’s mantle is taken up by Elisha • As he crossed back over the Jordan he stuck the water with Elijah’s mantle and it parted • The sons of the prophets go look for Elijah, but do not find him

  14. Bad Water • The water in Jericho is bad and the ground is barren • The men ask Elisha for help • Elisha threw salt from an bowl into the water and ‘healed’ it (purified it) • There would be no more death or barrenness

  15. Mocked by Youths • Elisha is on his way to Bethel • Youths from the city mock him • "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!“ • He pronounced a curse on them in the name of the Lord • Two bears mauled 42 of the youths • Elisha went to Mt Carmel then to Samaria • Lesson: disrespect
