Relation DAL to ISO9001… … and why ISO9001 certified organizations can do a little less…
ADQ and Quality Management Requirements • ADQ IR demands a Quality Management System and lays down basic requirements for that system • ANNEX VII
ADQ and Quality Management Requirements • Option in (2) • ISO9001 certification is an accepted Means of Compliance to ADQ IR ANNEX VII Part A
IR and related MoCs • Governing principles: • MoCs shall not add extra costs • MoCs shall make the implementation of an IR and achieving compliance with it easier
ADQ and DAL • The DAL Specification was developed in support of ADQ implementation ( to ease implementation and achieving compliance) • It focuses on Article 6(2) of the ADQ IR: Data Quality Article 6 … 2. When providing aeronautical data and/or aeronautical information, the parties referred to in Article 2(2) shall comply with the evidence requirements laid down in Annex IV, Part B. ...
ADQ and DAL • In the development process of the DAL Specification it became evident that some objectives are already covered by ISO9001 • To avoid ISO9001 certified organizations having to demonstrate compliance with DAL objectives twice ( see governing principles), some objectives in ANNEX VII (2) were identified, which only have to be addressed by the QMS of non-ISO9001 certified organizations • The relationship of DAL objectives to ISO9001 requirements may not always be obvious • Assessing these DAL/ISO9001 relationships requires experience in interpreting ISO9001 requirements

Examples Redundant Objective
Summary • The relationships of DAL objectives to ISO requirements were clarified • Appropriate references to ISO documentation were provided • The DAL Specification were restructured as to outline additional objectives that have to be met by non-ISO9001 certified organizations • This approach ensures that the implementation is better aligned with an organization’s generic QMS and avoids auditing the same requirement twice, i.e. once to demonstrate compliance with a DAL objective and another time to demonstrate ISO9001 compliance
