How words come into the language • Using the cut up words, place them into the categories to consider how they have entered the English language • Add one more to each heading • Extension: Which words could be viewed negatively as poor use of English and why? Resource 3
Understanding language use • Is the language teenagers use today bad/poor or simply reflecting the changes in technology? • How do we use language differently depending on our audience? • Is there a place for both standard and non-standard English? Resource 3
Looking ahead... • In year 10, whilst studying GCSE English Language, you will have to write a response to how language is used in different contexts • This means how we adjust/ change our language according to our audience and purpose • It is worth 10% of your total mark for English Language Resource 3
