Exercise5 GROUP DISCUSSION • Any family in Czech Republic can apply for a permit to homeschool their children for primary school, ages 6-11 and (provisionally) for secondary school, ages 12-15. What is your experience with this method of education? Discuss the pros and cons of being ‘home schooled’. (i.e. children are taught outside of the formal education system at home and go to school every half a year to pass subject tests until age 15.) Are you personally for or against it? Does your opinion differ from that of your parents or guardian? Discuss with the whole class. Make some conclusions about both sides of the issue. Where does your teacher stand on the issue? • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of retrieving information from the Internet versus books and libraries.
