Tuvan Throat Singing • Throat singing, or overtone singing, is created by manipulating the resonance chamber, or the singer’s mouth by moving the lips, tongue and jaw. • Four basics way for pitch manipulation: • The tip of the tongue remains behind the teeth while the mid-tongue actually rises. • The tongue can also move forward to assist in pitch manipulation. • Singer can change the amount of space between the back of the tongue and the back of throat to change pitch. • The throat singer can manipulate pitch by simply widening the mouth in very precise increments.
