  2. Asean history • On 8 August 1967, the five leaders of ASEAN from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand sat down together in the main hall of the Department of Foreign Affairs building in Bangkok and signed a document.

  7. Asean history S. Rajaratnam is one of the 5 leaders of ASEAN, he is from Singapore.

  8. Asean history • ThanatKhoman is one of the 5 leaders of ASEAN, he is from Thailand.

  9. Asean history • The advantage of that document, the Association of ASEAN was born. The five Foreign Ministers who signed it would later be greet as the Founding Fathers of probably the most successful inter-governmental organization in the developing world today. And the document they signed will be the ASEAN Declaration.

  10. Asean history • It was a short, simply-worded document containing just five articles. It declared the establishment of an Association for Regional Cooperation among the Countries of Southeast Asia to be known as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and spelled out the aims and purposes of that Association.
