  1. INDUSTRIA AI MONOZUKURI TRAINING FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS February 4 - 8, 2019 at USC ENGINEERING LAB DR. Virgilio Abellana Senior Advisor/ Monozukuri Specialist Mr. Mathias Odermatt Director Mr. Hideto Okazaki Director industria In coordination with USC School of Engineering

  2. COURSE DESCRIPTION: MONOZUKURI A basic study of the philosophical perspective of individuals in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) who aims transform their most important assets which is their Human Resources into a balance environment, possessing technical expertise but at the same time retaining the ethical values and principles. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE The objective is to apply knowledge in Monozukuri education in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The interaction and practical application of the trainee will determine the impact of the training in their real situation. • To give understanding of the Philosophical Education in regard to Japanese Style Principles. • To give insights of the real world for people with engineering background. • To guide participants on understanding their own company’s culture and ideology.

  3. BEFORE THE COURSE: • To understand the importance of Japanese Style work philosophy or craftsmanship and how to apply it current system of the company. • To establish a good communication system. • To inspire the beginners in honing their fundamental abilities by creating a culture as their guidelines in their real world. • AFTER THE COURSE: • THE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO: • Develop criteria in monitoring the progress of participants . The following aspects shall be consider in evaluating the effectiveness of the training: • Integrate the core values of the context of teachings in the book “Life in the Real Word.” • Demonstrate knowledge and critically evaluate themselves or the current situation in the company and make recommendation/improvements based on their learnings. • Demonstrate understanding of the Japanese Style Principles by transforming their way of thinking.

  10. BASIC AI SYLLABUS Lesson 1 Theme ① World trend of AILesson 2 Theme ② Application site of IoT & AILesson 3 Theme ③ Actual use of AI at manufacturing sites Lecture Outline Find out in which AI fields are students interested through their presentation…? Also, grasp the competence of students by responding to discussions and presentations. Discussion Points ・Theme ① World trend of AI⇒ Recognize the students’ understanding of AI and share their interests. (The degree of interest towards AI may widely vary with each students but it would be good to grasp where their interests are at.⇒ With regard to the current AI, students can discuss what is likely to be technically possible (possible and fun) and what is likely to be difficult (for example in Cebu). ・Theme ② Application site of IoT & AI⇒ Share information on AI &/or IoT services that is know &/or already utilized in everyday life.⇒ Discuss what is interesting in each case and what can bring new value by integrating AI / IoT.・Theme ③ Actual use of AI at manufacturing sites⇒ Discuss what is interesting in each case and what can bring new value by integrating AI / IoT. (What were the students interested in and where to find innovation?) ⇒ Discussion on what type of AI / IoT utilization is needed in the field of manufacturing. (By doing this, we can grasp in which field students have interests.)

  11. 【① World trend of AI 】 Outline of Lecture Changes in AI/IoT related marketsThe markets (industries) related to AI / IoT is particularly rapidly expanding in recent years.AI / IoT is a future business opportunity.Session to convey the above. History of IT as it progresses to AI / IoTWhile AI / IoT gets a lot of attention, AI / IoT progress was not born suddenly, but the background is that there was (is) evolution of IT.For example, a session to convey technological singularity. Current situation of AI technology… how AI is being looked upon;… there were 3 booms in AI and that currently it is the 4th boom;… Even with AI, it is not only "Deep Learning" (hereinafter DL), there are various Ais;… Sessions telling DL spreading widely and the technical impact that could not have happened is occurring. Impact of AI on industry and societyFrom an industrial perspective, AI is a trump card for processing BigData and extracting value. However, it doesn’t mean that AI can do everything and that there are things that it can’t do.There are also several types even with AI (children's AI, adult AI: strong AI, weak AI).Session to consider the importance that AI gives various impacts to industry and society in future. IoT / Big Data supporting AIDespite the importance of AI and Big Data, explaine the importance of IoT collecting data in the first place. Session to convey the relationship between IoT, Big Data, and AI. Required AI human resourcesBased on the AI as written above, explain that the AI talents required in the future are not someone who competes as AI researchers and/or AI vendors, but business operators who can handle AI.

  12. 【② Application site of IoT & AI 】 Outline of Lecture Organize examples of utilization of AI by industry Some of them are organized in Japanese. We are currently considering how to see those cases.

  13. 【③ Actual use of AI at manufacturing sites 】 Outline of Lecture Materials focused on the site of manufacturing are kept in mind. Utilization of AI/IoTChanges of people’s action and business with AI / IoT, etc.It is important to think about AI, IoT, Big Data as a set.Session to introduce the "utilization premise story" about the utilization process. AI / IoT related trends in the manufacturing field (Europe, the United States)Introduction of Germany’s “Industry 4.0” and GE’s IIJ in the US. Typical pattern of utilization of IoT / AI in the manufacturing field.Introducing the pattern of utilization of IoT / AI centered on major companies from five categories. About utilization of IoT / AI in the field focusing on small and medium manufacturing (Monozukuri) industry.Presentation of viewpoints when seeing cases (references).Introduce examples of IoT / AI utilization in multiple small and medium manufacturing industries.
