  1. Achievements of Pigeonpea Hybrid Projects Supported byISOPOM & NFSM

  2. Technologies Developed[ under these successful projects ] • CMS systems developed (20 lines) • Elite hybrids developed (10 hybrids) • High yield demonstrated (30- 44 qtl/h) • Seed technology developed • Seed cost estimated (Rs.10.5 / kg) • Proc. & utilization trials conducted • MAJOR CONSTRAINTS identified

  3. Partnerships in Development • ICAR Institutions = 16 • Other countries = 3 • Public seed companies = 4 • Private seed companies = 15

  4. Problems Identified (purity) • No quality control by producers • Inadequate isolation • Inefficient monitoring & roguing • Seed mixing accidental & deliberate • Lack of grow-out tests

  5. Performance of hybrid ICPH 2671 in on-farm trials in Maharashtra state, 2007-2009.

  6. Steps to Control Seed Quality • Produce high quality breeder seed • Efficient monitoring & roguing • Seed quality kit developed (biotech.) • Seedling marker incorporated in parental lines • Minimum isolation distance 500 m • Training of seed growers intensified

  7. Future Plans • Strengthen links with partners • Exchange of elite lines • Emphasis on disease resis. & yield • Locally adapted hybrids • Strengthen training & supervision • Fine tune production tech. • Release at national /state levels

  8. The Snap Shots

  9. Consultations and seed distribution at Kanzara, Akola, Maharashtra

  10. 2700 kg/ha ICPH 2671 on-farm trial Osmanabad, Maharashtra
