Sept. 2006 Nebraska created the Nebraska Advanced Manufacturing Coalition (NAMC) to support Nebraska’s Dream It. Do It. Initiative. Governor Dave Heineman, Tony Raimondo, Phyllis Eisen, and Amber Mestl kick -off the Dream!tDo!t Initiative in Nebraska.

Hurrdat Social Media Campaign CHALLENGE: Use social media to reach youth demographic, introduce DIDI Nebraska PLAN: DIDI Nebraska partnered with Hurrdat to use professional athletes with a major social media influence in the state RESULTS: In 6 months, DIDI’s message reached 616,874 social media users, driving 6,031 clicks to the website. Hurrdat has influencers in every state with a DIDI Initiative
A Manufacturing Renaissance! The NAM (National Association of Manufacturers) has a four-point strategic plan for economic growth and jobs. Goal 1: The United States will be the best place in the world to manufacture and attract foreign direct investment. Goal 2: The United States will expand access to global markets to enable manufacturers to reach the 95% of consumers who live outside our borders. Goal 3: Manufacturers in the United States will have the workforce that the 21st-century economy requires. Goal 4: Manufacturers in the United States will be the world’s leading innovators.
Manufacturing Renaissance! RESHORING MANUFACTURING IS COMING BACK TO THE U.S.
RESHORING SOME EXAMPLES OF MANUFACTURING COMING BACK OR STAYING IN THE U.S. Caterpiller– building a $120 million plant in Victoria, TX to make giant earthmovers; some models were previously built in Japan. Master Lock – bringing 300 jobs back from China to Milwaukee. General Electric –invested $93 million in refurbishing a plant in Bloomington, IN (700 jobs). Also invested $80 million a water heater plant in Louisville, KY (400 jobs) rather than produce in Asia. Whirlpool decided to break ground on a new $200 million plant in Cleveland, TN rather than send the 1,500 jobs overseas. Buck Knives – bringing production to Idaho from China Otis Elevator – moving several operations to a new plant in SC from Nogales, Mexico The Outdoor GreatRoom Company – bringing production back to MN from China. Jarden – bringing production back from China Dow Chemical, NCR, Sauder Woodworking, GF AgieCharmilleshave all brought overseas production back to the US in the past 3 years.

U.S. Manufacturers are failing to fill thousands of vacant jobs -- surprising when 14 million people are searching for work. • Technology giant Siemens Corp., has over 3,000 jobs open all over the country. More than half require science, technology, engineering, and math-related skills. • A survey by ManpowerGroup found that a record 52% of U.S. employers have difficulty filling critical positions within their organizations.
