Assignment 2 Security Foundations Assignment 2: Report • The security domain is broad, as security in terms of the means through which society pursues a state of well-being is diverse, both in Australia and at a global level. Therefore, different areas of interest within the security domain require different knowledge, skill and individual attribute requisites. Task • You are to conduct a critical analysis of the provided security related job titles and communicate your analysis in writing. Your analysis should present the job specific, and converged themes in terms of knowledge, skills and attribute requisites for the positions, and how these requisites relate to security theory and general academic attributes. Special Instructions • Word Limit 2000 words +/- 10% // Due Monday 22nd May 2017

Introduction • Introduce the topic by providing brief, relevant background information of the topic/problem (establishcontext) • Indicate focus, scope and direction of report (state the problem) • Act as a navigation guide for the reader (indicate how you are going to address/answer the question/problem) • No thesis statement for this assignment A useful rule of thumb, an introduction should be no shorter than one-twelfth and no longer than one-tenth of the total assignment.
Definition of Terms • Knowledge • A body of information applied directly to the performance of a function, or • Facts and information acquired through experience or education (the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject) • Skill • An observable competence • The ability to do something well • Attribute • A quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of someone or something (for example flexibility) • Theme • Something that recurs or pervades
Content and Thematic Analysis Use Literature where possible to support your findings. For example: • To introduce, define and explain what knowledge, skills and graduate attributes are and how they are embedded into the job descriptions • All supporting literature should be detailed in your end-text reference list Individually present the position specific (micro-level) aspects : • Detail the knowledge, skills and attributes identified as part of the attribute and role description of each job description Then present the overarching themes (macro-level) across all roles: • Indicating thematic similarities and differences across all the positions (contrasts and similarities) in regards to Graduate Attributes, Core Knowledge and Skills.

Analysis of Job Description For the purpose of this report: • Title each analysis with a subheading (that you can later use to refer to each text as part of your findings/discussion). For example; Text One, or Job Description One etc. • Provide a short (100 words/1 paragraph) analysis of what the employer is asking for underneath respective heading
Discussion What does this mean for the employment domain of security? • This is where you bring it all together and discuss what stands out and what it means • Where possible, use literature to support your discussion
Conclusion Provide a short conclusion of maximum one paragraph that details the main findings and what it means. • For example: In terms of the analysis, this is what was found. . . And this is what it means • Do notintroduce any new information/material, direct quote a source or in-text reference anything in the conclusion • A conclusion has to be a logical ending to what has previously been discussed by • Pulling together all of the parts of your argument (identify main reasons/causes/factors and provide recommendations/speculations on future action) • Refer the reader back to the focus outlined in your introduction and to the central topic • Add to the overall quality and impact of the assignment
Your Task • In groups, you have 20 min to extract the knowledge, skills and attribute requisites specific for your job description You need to present and detail your findings on the white board. Once all roles have been detailed, we will look at extracting themes across all.
