  2. Caproni Ca.42 bomber SPECIFICATIONS Caproni Ca.4 series Heavy bomber Italy Introduced in 1918 Engine: 3 Isotta-Fraschini, V-6, liquid cooled inline, 270 hp (190 kW 32 produced Top speed: 78 mph Ceiling, 9,842ft 4-8 machine guns, 3,197 lb of bombs.

  3. The history of the heavy bomber • The caproni ca.4 was built in 1918 by Gianni Caproni. It was built with the same odd design as the caproni ca.3 it was equipped with two tractor motors and a pusher motor. The plane was built in the rare tri-plane layout. It was accepted by the italian army under military designation. The ca.4 was built in many variants differing in factoriy designations. • The ca.4 was a tree-engine, wood constructed triplane covered in fabric. It could hold 4 passenger and had 4 machine guns. It could carry 3,197 lbs. of bombs which meant 12 were located on a nacelle while the other 18 to 20 were on the outside. It also contained a torpedo sling on the bottom of the aircraft. The main landing gear was fixed and was contained 2 sets of 4 wheels.

  4. Bombers vs. bombers Pros of the allied Cons of the central Can hold 2-6 machine guns. Biplane layout. None were made above 1917. • Can hold 4-8 machine guns. • Made with a rare triplane layout out. • Accurate at delivering large payloads of bombs to distant enemy targets.

  5. What if it didn’t exist? • If the caproni ca.4 had not existed, it would put a handicap because it was accurate when dropping large amount of bombs at distant targets and generated a better lift because of its triplane design.
