L’Aquila is one the main cultural centre in Italy. It was founded between 1240 and 1290 and its historical centre is full of important monuments that represent a relevant part of the Italian cultural heritage. Its territory was the cradle of pre-roman and roman settlements on which several villages still preserve relevant historical and art heritage, since more than 3000 years.

UNIVERSITY STRUCTURES DAMAGED On April 6th morning, with different degrees of damage, all the buildings were unfit for : Didactic activities Research Administration The worst damages were in the historical buildings of the town centre After the earthquake

Technology Transfer Office • - offers companies the access to applied research and to the skills of its researchers with the aim of enhancing the relationship between research and industry through the technology transfer. • University Research and Relationships with Departments Office. • - coordinates and supports Departments and Research Centers in all the procedures related to the management of research funds provided by the national bodies • International Projects Office • - involved in the procurement, coordination and management of European and Regional funds • International Relations Office • - manages the University international relations by providing the necessary support to the Pro Rector for IR. • - manages the European Union funds for training and international mobility of students and teachers- manages LLP/Erasmus and Erasmus Mundus • - as well as agreements with foreign universities
The University set-up a centralised “International Project Office” to support academic staff in answering to the calls for proposal within EU and International Programmes, to manage projects, to disseminate results and experiences to the University bodies. • The office, in cooperation with IRO, implemented many International projects: • 16 TEMPUS projects (7 still active in several geographic and thematic areas) • 9 EM (Balkan area, Central Asia, Pakistan, India) • 60 bilateral agreement with non-EU countries • 4 LLP/Leonardo (3 still active) • Erasmus Mundus Master Degree (Mathmods) • Several research projects • .......(many others)
University of L’Aquila has actively participated to the Bologna process since the beginning and has a great experience in cooperation activities. • The internationalization gave rise to • 2 joint Bachelor and honour Bachelor degrees • 5 joint Master degrees • 1 Erasmus Mundus Master degree • 5 Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation window • 4 EMA2 • Several joint PhDs programs
The recent reform of the HE system in Italy has changed the internal organisation of both research and teaching in the institutions, but essentially the degree courses remain the same: • - 30 Bachelor Degrees • - 32 Master Degrees • - 4 Master Degrees - single cycle • - 11 PhDs (8+3 Consortium between Univaq and other Universities)
