SMOKEFREE HOMES AND CARSWhat’s the campaign all about? • National Campaign raising awareness about the risks of “second hand” or “passive” smoking. • Key Points • Lighting up produces “second hand” smoke • More than 80% of cigarette smoke is invisible & odourless • Not just unpleasant but toxic • People breathing in “second hand” smoke are at risk of many of the same diseases as smokers (includes cancer & heart disease) • Children – more vulnerable as have less well developed airways, lungs & immune systems. • As virtually all enclosed work & public places now smokefree, so most likely exposure is in the home and cars.
