  2. Fractions are made up of a numerator (top number) and a denominator (bottom number) 2 numerator 3 denominator

  3. To multiply a fraction by a fraction Multiply the numerators together to get the new numerator, then multiply the denominators together to get the new denominator 1 x 1 = 1 4 x 2 = 8 So 1 8 8

  4. To multiply a fraction by an integer (whole number) Multiply the numerator by the whole number and keep the denominator the same. 1 x 70 = 70 So 70 5

  5. To multiply a mixed number by an integer (whole number) Multiply the fraction as we did on the last slide but then multiply the whole numbers together also 1 x 4 = 4 = 1 4 4 1 x 4 = 4 So 5

  7. To divide a fraction by an integer (whole number) Multiply the whole number by the denominator (bottom number) 4 x 3 = 12 So 1 12 12

  8. To divide a fraction by another fraction Criss-cross the numbers over and then Multiply. Or Turn the second fraction upside down and then multiply the new numerators and denominators. 3 _____ 2 6 ____ 2
