Top tips! • Make lists of central points. • Write a summary for each topic, e.g. Multi-cultural poetry. • Read and highlight notes. • Talk to yourself. • Group revision. • Develop memory techniques (mnemonics), e.g. SEMI WET GIRL (c ). • Use a recorder. • Practice exam techniques, e.g. past papers. • Use diagrams, e.g. mind maps. • Allocate more revision time to your weaker subjects. • Technology such as our VLE and internet sites, e.g. BBC bitesize.

9. Techniques to avoid! • Just by reading notes. • Leaving revision until the last minute. • Just revising the content. • Revising for long periods without breaks. Breaks are essential – for every 1 hour study you should have a 15minute break.

Raising of the Participation Age • The government has increased the age to which all young people in England must continue in education or training, requiring them to continue until the end of the academic year in which they turn 17 from 2013 and until their 18th birthday from 2015. • This means that pupils who left year 11 in summer 2013 need to continue in education or training until at least the end of the academic year in which they turn 17. Pupils starting year 11 or below in September 2013 will need to continue until at least their 18th birthday.
