  2. AFFIRM is a program designed to increase the retention, matriculation, and transfer rate of African American students to four year colleges and universities. Emphasis is placed on the successful completion of the necessary English courses needed to transfer to a four year institution. An essential component to the success of the AFFIRM program is the collaboration between students, parents, community members, as well as faculty and staff members of San Joaquin Delta College. We currently have an average of 90 students in the program.The staffing for the AFFIRM program is one part-time Resource Specialist classified position.

Program accomplishments The AFFIRM program is very proud of Crystal Harris, she graduated from Delta College in the Spring of 2011 and transferred to UCLA majoring in Linguistics with a minor in African American history. Jeremy Mayfield is another Alumnus of the AFFIRM program that thrived at Delta College both academically and athletically. After completing his academic requirements he signed a full scholarship to attend the University of Mary. Roderick Townsend is another Alumnus of the AFFIRM program, not only was he an excellent student at Delta College he was also a great athlete. Due to his academic and athletic prowess at Delta College Roderick signed a scholarship to Boise State University to compete in Track & Field. AFFIRM currently serves approximately 116 students, and the study hall component has logged over 348 hours, which aids in the success of the program.
