Facts about money • Money is used to pay for various goods and services. • Money usually takes the form of coins, banknotes, and bank balances. • Many countries have their own currency, while some use a shared currency. • The currency most traded around the world is the United States dollar. • Money isn’t made out of paper, it’s actually made out of linen. The One Dollar Bill • The US one dollar bill is paper money worth one hundred US cents. • The front of the one dollar bill shows a picture of George Washington, the first president of the United States of America. • The back of the one dollar bill shows the word “one” flanked by two circles. • One dollar is written $1.00 Main Menu

The Nickel • The nickel is a US coin worth five cents or $0.05 • On the front of a nickel you will find a picture of Thomas Jefferson. • On the back of a nickel you will find a picture of Jefferson’s house called Monticello. • A nickel is the same as five pennies. • 20 nickels equals one dollar.
