  5. INTRODUCTION The education is an intricate interplay between teachers and students. Language is the social beings of the individuals is saying their identity that is conveyed to other people through teaching-learning process, applying pedagogic strategies to help the students to know their behaviors, cultures and ways of existence as also improve their quality of life. Is important to point out to accomplish a significant learning on the students, nowadays teachers use a mix of pedagogic strategies with the latest methodologies to give support and self-confidence to their students applying motivational activities in their daily classes to wake up the students interest for learning new languages and knowledge.

  6. PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION MOTIVATION • Methods and techniques • Classroom environment • Classroom interaction • Limited use of teaching material

  7. LACK OF MOTIVATION

  8. PROBLEM SETTING Main problem • How does the lack of motivation affects the development of students for learning English language on fifth courses at “Saraguro” Technical Institute term 2007-2008 Secondary problems • Traditional methods and techniques • Limited use of teaching material • Teachers’ preparation

  9. VARIABLES WORKING OUT • Independent variable • Students` lack motivation • Dependent variable • Incidence in the learning process of English language • Communicative competences are not well developed

  10. OBJECTIVES GENERAL OBJECTIVE • To determine the main causes that produce lack of motivation in the English learning process and implement new strategies and techniques using an adequate material to reach the significant learning on the students of fifth courses at “Saraguro” Technical Institute, term 2007-2008. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES • To analyze the teacher’s methods and techniques that affect the students’ motivation to learn the English language • To determine how the lack of using Didactic-Teaching material affects the communicative learning process • To characterize the significant learning by the implementation of new strategies to develop their English competences

  11. JUSTIFICATION Due to globalization we have seem the necessity of learning the English language in order to improve our social status and knowledge in different fields, wherever some problems have arisen during the development of education process that we have felt when we did our practices at ‘SARAGURO’ Technical Institute. Motivation is the one of the main problems that students have in their educational formative development; it can be external or internal factors which difficult the learning and interest of English as second language.

  12. CHAPTER II STRUCTURE MOTIVATION LEARNING-PROCESS Extrinsic Kinds of motivation Constructivism Intrinsic Components of motivation Curriculum Learning Themotivation influence Teacher Roles Learning environment with motivation Strategies for increasing motivation

  13. MOTIVATION PROCESS INTERNAL OF AN INDIVIDUAL EXTRINSIC COME FROM SOMEONE EXTERNAL INTRINSIC COME FROM OURSELVES COMPONENTS OF MOTIVATION CURIOSITY COMPETENCE SELF-EFFICACY REINFORCEMENT NEED EXTERNAL MOTIVATOR ATTITUDE LEARNING

  14. MOTIVATION INFLUENCE EXTERNAL INTERNAL LEARNING ENVIROMENT WITH MOTIVATION EFFECTIVE LEARNING TEACHERS’ ABILITY ACTION GIVE A GOOD CLASSROON ENVIRONMENT FUN FEEDBACK DO DIFFERENT KIND OF MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITIES SOCIAL INTERACTION MAINTAIN Ss INTEREST ERROR TOLERANCE

  15. STRATEGIES TO INCREASE MOTIVATION AVOID GIVING EXTRINSIC REWARDS ESTABLISH GOALS FOR EACH DAILY CLASS DISCUSS ABOUT Ss CRITERIA, CURIOSITIES AND KNOWLEDGE GIVE COURAGE, PRAISE, SUPPORT AND TIME TO Ss BUILD A QUALITY RELATIONSHIP AMONG TEACHER, Ss AND SCHOOL TEACH MIX GAMES AND ACTIVITIES TO WAKE UP Ss’ INTEREST DO EVALUATION AND REINFORCEMENT

  16. LEARNING PROCESS CONSTRUCTIVISM WE CONSTRUCT OUR KNOWLEDGE ON OUR OWN EXPERIENCES ASSIMILATION ACCOMODATION

  17. CURRICULUM PROGRAM OF STUDY AND INSTRUCTION CRADLE PROJECT (OWTE) IT HAS STRONG CONTENT BASED APPROACH FROM OTHERS AREAS OF CURRICULUM COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING, TASK BASED APPROACH AUDIO-LINGUAL METHOD

  18. LEARNING ACQUISITION OF KNOWLWEDGE OR SKILLS HABITUATION IMPRINTING ASSOCIATION OBSERVATION PLAY INFORMAL FORMAL NONFORMAL LEARNING SIGNIFICANT TEACH Ss SOMETHING MEANINGFUL AND IMPORTANT

  19. TEACHERS’ ROLES • NEEDS TO BE AN ANALIST • FACILATORS • INDEPENDENT PARTICIPANT • ADVISOR • GUIDE • PROBLEM MAKER • EVALUATOR • SEQUENCER OF TASK

  20. HYPOTHESIS Working Hypothesis The lack of motivation from students is affecting the English learning process at fifth courses in the “Saraguro” Technical Institute. Alternative Hypothesis Motivational activities wake up student’s interest and concentration in the English learning process at fifth courses in the “Saraguro” Technical Institute. Null Hypothesis The lack of motivation from students isn't affecting the English learning process at fifth courses in the “Saraguro” Technical Institute.

  23. CHAPTER IV ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

  24. Independent Variables Students’ lack of motivation: it means someone is not be interested in or not being able to do anything. Dependent Variable Incidence in the learning-process of English language: it is a cause of effects or disagreements in the unfolding of it. Communicative competences: they are the skills someone has to develop for a good communication in real life situations. VARIABLES WORKING OUT

  25. Question 1: Do teachers use the latest methodologies in the development of the English classes? Such as Suggestopedia, the Silent way, Cooperative learning, the Audio Lingual Method so on. Alternatives Frequency Percentage Yes 18 14% No 105 78% Sometimes 10 8% TOTAL 133 100% Methodologies 8% 14% Yes No Sometimes 78%

  26. CHI SQUARE FORMULA

  27. CHI SQUARE CALCULATION THEORETICAL SQUARED CHI GL = (Row N0 -1) (column N0 -1) GL = (2-1) (3-1) GL = 2 Significance Level: 0, 01 Statistical Decision: With 2 grades of freedom and a level of Significance of 0, 01 correspond to a THEORETICAL SQUARED CHI de 9,210 established in the statistical table of values of squared chi

  28. Statistical Decision for Specific Hypothesis ONCE CALCULATED SQUARED CHI (34, 95) higher than the THEORETICAL SQUARED CHI (9,210) the Null Hypothesis Ho is not accepted, this means that the lack of motivation in students is affecting the English learning-process at fifth courses in the “Saraguro” Technical Institute

  29. CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS • TEACHERS APPLY TRADITIONAL METHODS (Translation method and Task Based Approach) • STUDENTS LACK OF MOTIVATION DURING THE LEARNING PROCESS RECOMMENDATION • TO PLAN COURSES OR SEMINARIES (competences and up to date d methods) • TO TEACHERS` WELL PREPARED (values, F.C.E. and daily planning)

  30. CHAPTER VI PROPOSAL
