  16. Parent Expectations Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support at all times Remember that children participate to have fun. The game is for the youth not the adults. Do not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike behavior with any official, coach, player, or parent Teach your child that doing one’s best is more important than winning Respect umpires and their authority during games

  17. Parent Expectations • Refrain from coaching your child or other players during games • Don’t embarrass your child by calling attention to him/her through loud and rude behavior • Encourage your child to practice good sportsmanship • Never yell or ridicule your child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a game • Never question, discuss, or confront coaches during a game • Stay away from the dugout during games and allow the coaches to coach

  18. Parent Expectations • Understand that winning is important to the team, however the primary objective is promoting an environment of growth and learning. One of the most important things will be what they learn from success and failure. • Support the coach’s message. While you may not agree with the coach at all times, you need to understand that contradicting that message is counterproductive. • Do everything within your control to make this a positive experience for your child, other players, families, and coaches. Do your part to contribute positively to Oregon Youth Baseball.
