Definition of RC A RC should provide all the technical services, all the data services for the analysis and should be capable of providing another class of data services This we call a tier-1 RC L.M.Barone - MONARC
Capabilities of RC A tier-1 RC should provide initially resources of the order of 10 ÷ 20 % of CERN The RC should be capable of coping with increasing needs and technology evolution L.M.Barone - MONARC
Tier-2 RC We see a role for centers smaller in size and cost than tier-1 RCs. They should provide technical services, maybe not at the same level, and they should be mostly dedicated to data analysis L.M.Barone - MONARC
Tier-2 RC (cont’d) Their initial capability should be of the order of 5 ÷ 25 % of tier-1 RCs Their constituency should be mainly local They should exchange data with tier-1 RCs L.M.Barone - MONARC
Service Centers In our model we envisage smaller centers dedicated to special services (documentation, MC, recalibrations, special productions) Such centers will have ad hoc architectures L.M.Barone - MONARC

Open Issues • The problem of centers serving many experiments has not been addressed yet(priorities, resource sharing etc.) • Data exchange among centers needs morestudy • detailed architectures L.M.Barone - MONARC
Conclusions • A hierarchy of Regional Centers seems the appropriate model for LHC • There are still open issues which will be addressed within end of the year • MONARC will eventually deliver a completearchitecture for RCs L.M.Barone - MONARC
