Ignite Presentation: Near Field Communication. Harry Yang. What is NFC?.
E N D
What is NFC? • Near Field Communication, or NFC, is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimeters.
How Does it Really Work? • NFC is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) standards, meaning that the chips work by generating their own RF fields. In Active mode, this means both devices are generating fields for file transfers. In Passive mode, one device, called the “reader”, generates the field, while the other, the “tag”, recognizes the signal and becomes enabled.
Problems • Requires Hardware • Not a lot of people know about it • Very few vendors have NFC Technology
