American Medicine …..is mostly Allopathic or better known as modern medicine. Allopathic medicine has a long list of ethical Issue surrounding it. Such as: Euthanasia genetic modification.
Euthanasia Euthanasia: the ending of a persons life based on a very poor state of ones health which has less than a 5% chance of becoming healthy again. WHY? • It has been argued to retain the individuals dignity. • Relieve long term suffering . • Prevent ones family from inheriting heavy medical bills.
Criticism • Where does it end? • will it diminish how our culture values human life? • a doctors duty is to keep people alive, not end life.
Genetically modified babies • “A baby whose genetic makeup has been artificially selected by genetic engineering combined with in vitro fertilization to ensure the presence or absence of particular genes or characteristics.” oxford English dictionary • Still a future ambition, not yet in full scale practice.
Benefits • There is one major benefit It would allow parents to eliminate hereditary disease which have been passed down from generation to generation
Criticism • It will lead to parents enhancing there babies. • Some doctors believe that personality traits will eventually be tampered with • Some fear the acceptation of this will have negative and irreversible effects on society
|The Future| • Both of these ethical dilemmas are a result of advanced technology. • Both seem to be on a “slippery slope”, meaning they could very easily result in other things.
