  2. 1. MY Peace I Leave with You • The characteristic of the Messianic Age in OT. (e.g. Isa 52:7, 54:13, 57:19, Eze 37:26, Hag 2:9) • The tangible presence and experience of wellbeing – “Shalom” • People hunger for it: The world cannot provide it (Jer 6:13-14) • Bound up with life in the Spirit • Today: How to walk in the Spirit – Radical Faith.

  3. 1. MY Peace I Leave with You ... • Radical Faith: What does it mean? Make a decision, or take an action that is clearly putting God first contrary to the ways of the world • Each one of us is called to live a daily life of Radical Faith! • Then we will have His peace: not as the world gives!

  4. 2. “Has” and “Keeps” my commands = Loves Me • “If you love me, [you will] keep my commands.” (v 15, 21, 23-24, cf. 31) • Relationship: at the centre of our faith. A call, an offer of intimacy with God ! ! • Doing things together • Being together • Being on the “same page” • No way to intimacy with God if we IGNORE or OFFEND Him.

  5. 2. “Has” and “Keeps” my commands = Loves Me ... • Jesus: “doing what the Father is doing” (5:19), secret of intimacy • “ONLY” what the Father is doing • “Nothing” of himself. • Alwayson the same page • Same is true for our intimacy with God ! ! ! ! • Doing things for God is NOT enough. That’s Worldly spirituality.

  6. 2. “Has” and “Keeps” my commands = Loves Me ... Do what God lays before us to do. • “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching” (v 23) • Jesus’ teaching cannot be reduced to a “to do” list

He will give you another Advocate • “Advocate” could be translated “helper, encourager, comforter” • The Holy Spirit: The Spirit of Truth • To help us (v 16) • To be with us (v 16) • To teach us all things (v 26) • To remind us of everything (v 26) • He lives with us (v 17) • He will be in us (v 17)

He will give you another Advocate ... • “teach” and “remind” affirms the message is accurate and true. • Nicene creed: “One holy catholic and apostolic church” • Not an alternative to Bible study ! We diligently Study • The Spirit “teaches” us He gives understanding and deep conviction in our inner being

  9. 3. He will give you another Advocate ... • Walking in the Spirit requires ATTENTIVENESS • Being aware of what is going on right around us, right now.

  10. The “Ingredients” of walking in the Spirit A victorious, joyful, shalomful life in God. S – A – L – T S PIRIT: The presence and empowering of God. A TTENTIVENESS: Avoiding distractions from the here and now. L OVE: Intimacy with Jesus and the Father T EACHING/WORD: Knowing all that God has said.

  11. RADICAL FAITH + RADICAL EMPOWERING Make a decision, or take an action • that is clearly putting God first • contrary to the ways of the world • under the prompting of the Spirit • and in His power
