  2. Business ASAP is a database of business journals and newspapers providing information on companies, markets and industries

  3. To view a list of resources indexed in Business ASAP, click on the Title List feature on the left side of the screen.

  4. The pop-up title list shows the ISSN number, the dates when the articles begin and end indexing, full text and image production in the database. The user can use the “control + F” keystroke to search for a specific journal title.

  5. The database opens with the Keyword search option. This option will search all the keywords anywhere in the articles themselves, not just the indexes.

  6. Here is a search for “federal budget deficit” searching the entire article contents, after January 1, 2006.

  7. The results page displays the number of citations for the search. The user can mark any citations for later use. There is a link to a dictionary on the left side of the screen. The user can instantly get the definition of any word in the article. There is also a link to limit search. This link allows the user to further limit the list on the page.

  8. The full article displays the journal title with date and page number. The title of the article is listed and print or email options are on the left side of the screen.

  9. A user can Mark selected articles the click View Mark List.

  10. When the user selects the View Marked List option, the entire marked list can printed or emailed.

  11. Business ASAP accepts all Boolean search operators. This includes proximity searching and wildcards. This search is looking for the phrase “stock option” or “stock options”. The “w1” means the words must be next to each other and the asterisk mean there may or may not be an other letter at the end of the word.

  12. Here a resulting articles contains the phrase “stock option(s)”.

  13. The user can also limit any search by only “articles with text”, “to refereed publications”, or by date or range or dates. The user can also limit any search by a specific publication or publications by using the Browse button.

  14. Clicking the Browse button displays a list of the journals that can be selected using the alphabet links on the left panel. The user then clicks the Submit selections link.

  15. There are other search options listed on the left side panel of the homepage screen.

  16. The Subject guide search produces a list of subjects listed in the database.

  17. Here is the results list for the subject term telecommunications. The listings with a View button are article, those with a read button are referring links for that term.

  18. The subject link page contain a link for articles on the subject. Here there is a link to articles on this particular company.

  19. Note that when the user returns to the homepage there is a History of searches performed. This list continues to grow as searches are performed. The user can highlight any of these listings and view the search results again.

  20. To search for articles by matching words that occur in the articles themselves, with the best matches displayed first, perform a Relevance Search

  21. The Advanced search option allow full Boolean search within specific fields with the use of the dropdown menus.

  22. The Advanced search feature also allows the user to search within Company ProFiles or SIC Descriptions (standard industrial codes).

  23. A search for SIC code descriptions produces a list of SIC codes with that term. Here the term “computers” produces a complete list.

  24. The individual articles on the SIC codes provide a complete description and links to Profiles of companies in the industry and Articles about the industry.

  25. The last search option is the Journal search.

  26. The Journal search displays information on each journal in the database.

  27. Clicking on the title displays list of all the issues for that journal.

  28. Clicking on an individual issue displays a list of all of the articles for that issue.
