Vocabulary • Character adjectives • Mischievous, daring, cunning, dangerous, kind, caring, vain, cold-hearted, polite, considerate, evil, greedy, brave, honest • Appearance • Curly brown hair, a long white beard, shiny black hair and rosy cheeks • Personal qualities • Polite, patient, honest, sensitive, friendly, caring, selfish

  3. Look at your students’ book • Page 4; do the lead-in activity. • And read the story on the same page. • Choose the best answer for each question on page 5. • Do the vocabulary practice on page 6-7.

  4. Grammar • Present simple (s+v1+o) • Present continuous(s+is,am,are+ving+o) • Stative verbs • Adverb of frequency

  5. Present simple • We use the present simple for: • Facts and permanent states. • General truths and laws of nature. • Habits and routines. (with always, usually, etc) • Timetables and programs. (in the future) • Sporting commentaries, reviews and narrations. • Feelings and emotions.

  6. The time expressions • We use the present simple are: • Usually, often, always, every day/week/month/year, etc. • In the morning/afternoon/evening, at night/the weekend • On Fridays, etc.

  7. Present continuous • We use the present continuous: • For actions taking place at or around the moment of speaking. • For temporary situations. • For fixed arrangements in the near future. • For currently changing and developing situation.

  8. The time expressions • We use with the present continuous are: • Now, at the moment, at present, these days, nowadays, still, today, tonight, etc.

  9. Look at your students’ book • Finish the grammar in use exercises on page 8-9. • Then practice more with my extra work. (worksheet)

  10. Stative verbs • Stative verbs are verbs which describe a state rather than an action, and so do not usually have a continuous tense. These verbs are: • Verbs of senses; appear, feel, hear, look, see, seem, smell, sound, taste, etc. • Verbs of perception; believe, forget, know, realise, remember, understand, etc. • Verbs which express feelings and emotions; desire, detest, enjoy, hate, like, prefer, want, etc. • And some other verbs; be, belong, contain, cost, fit, have, include, keep, matter, need, owe, own, want, weigh, wish, etc. • Some of these verbs can be used in continuous tense but different meaning; think, have, see, taste, smell, appear, fit

  11. Adverbs of frequency • Adverbs of frequency are normally placed before the main verb. • Adverbs of frequency are placed after the verb to be and after auxiliary verbs. • I always drive to work. • Susan is often late for work. • He has usually wanted to go on a safari.

  12. Writing • A letter giving advice (worksheet p.9) • Portfolio • Description of a hero/villain

  13. Portfolio • Guide line • Write on your note about your favorite film or TV hero(line)/villain. List about: -the character’s name -where he/she appears -character -appearance -what happens in the story

  14. Portfolio • Use your answer from the list to write a short paragraph for a teen magazine about your favorite hero/heroine or villain. Use the second and third paragraphs of the text as a model. Start like this: ……., from………, is my favorite………… He/She’s…………………………………………………..
