The ROOFLIFE Sustainable Roofing Decision Model: SUSTAINABLE ROOFING ENERGY ENVIRONMENT DURABILITY ACCOUNTABILITY
The ROOFLIFE Model What is a Sustainable Roof? A sustainable roof is designed, installed and managed with a goal to minimize overall environmental impact. In order to accomplish this goal, a sustainable roof must be developed in a step-by-step design focusing on… Energy. The roof should incorporate the best available technologies to reduce overall building energy consumption and support clean energy production within the building it covers. Durability. The roof should be designed using the most effective combination of initial performance and planned ongoing service to achieve an optimal service life, in turn reinforcing the overall service life of the building it covers. Environment. The roof should incorporate the best available strategies to address other environmental impacts that may be reduced through effective design, installation and management of the roof. Finally, the planned environmental benefit of the roof must be validated and retained through an ongoing accountability process to assure the roof performs as expected throughout its service life.
