  1. MDG Net: Building capacity to achieve MDGs through a global knowledge network

  2. What is MDG Net? • An e-mail based discussion group of the UN Development Group, facilitated by UNDP • A bi-monthly MDG Net Digest with updates on the 4 components of the Core Strategy • A MDG Net web-based Resource Corner

  3. MDG Net Membership • Launched in Jan. 2002, there are almost 500 MDG Net members, representing over 100 countries and 25 parts of the UN System • UNDP consists of approx 60% of members • Membership is open to government and CSO partners

MDG Net Discussion • Examples of discussions so far: 1) Shared examples and experiences on localising MDGs 2) Exchanging strategy and tools on MDG Costing Methodology 3) How to include entire CT in writing MDGR • Discussions are summarized into Consolidated Replies to a query, complete with Research Sources

MDG Net Discussion • Discussion is Demand Driven • Members send discussion questions, requests for expert recommendations or general queries • Expert moderated ‘Forum Discussions’ are to be held based on Member recommendations for themes, “MDG indicators and data quality” is scheduled to be the first discussion forum

  6. Bi-monthly MDG Net Digest • Summarizes network activities • Announces new tools/resource on the MDG Net Resource Corner • MDG happenings & announcements (ie. New MDGRs, Report of related events, Update on Progress in the 4 arms of the Core Strategy • New relevant research (emphasising monitoring & aid coordination issues) • MDGs in the Media

MDG Net Resource Corner, contains: • Draft items for discussion on MDG Net • Archives of the MDG Net Digests & Discussions • Short List of consultants recommended by colleagues for assistance with MDGRs • MDG Report Status Table • MDG Tools, Research, and Experiences, including MDG Presentation Tool kit • Visit at www.undg.org - 'Implementing the Millennium Declaration’/ 'MDG Net’

  8. RBEC & MDG Net • 450 current MDG Net members, approx. 64 are from Europe & the CIS programme countries • Albania, Armenia & Poland have published MDGRs on DevLink • 7 others have estimated their publication date before the end of the year, according to the MDGR Status Table • Poland & Albania have been active discussants on MDG Net
