SCOUT • Narrator • „Scout“ Jean Louise Finch • A tomboy • During the book 6 to 9 years old • Daughter of Atticus Finch • Mother died when she was 2 • Brother of Jem
JEM • Brother of Scout • During the book 10 – 14 years old • Loves his sister and protects her • In second part he reaches puberty • Feels very smart (like an adult)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR • Nelle Harper Lee was born on 28th april 1926 in Monroeville • Her childhood was quite similar to Scout‘s • Wanted to be a writer since she was seven
ABOUT THE AUTHOR • Moved to New York, there she began her writing career • An agent encouraged her to expand one of her stories into a novel • because of her frequent trips to Alabama, she was inspired to the story of “To kill a mockingbird” • The book was finally published in 1960 • She became suddenly famous but did not like being the object of attention
THE MOVIE • 1962 American film adaptation • Directed by Robert Mulligan • Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch • Won three Oscars (eight nominations) • Several scenes from the book were cut out
THE RACE DISCRIMINATION Opinion of Scout‘s teacher: “Over here we don’t believe in persecuting anybody. Persecution comes from people who are prejudiced.”

OUR FINAL OPINION • Great book • Hard to read (accent) • Fantastic story • Tells very smart things about the human being and life • Everyone could understand it • Nice to watch the movie
