The “Mancunian” dialect The Mancunian dialect is less commonly known than other dialects, because it does not have any particularly distinctive features. Mancunian comes from the city it is primarily located, Manchester. When spoken at full speed it is fairly easy to understand for non-native speakers, especially when compared to Scouse. However, it still has a “northern” sound.

Unique Features • There is a frequent shortening of words in Mancunian: Going goin Isn’t it innit Because coz Are you alright? Y’aright?
Unique Features • Mancunian is very monotone in general, and not very musical (this is completely opposite to Scouse, which is located just 45 km away in Liverpool) It is spoken at a medium speed and should be easier for most non-native speakers to understand.
