A full B3 is the outcome at the end of 4 years but the competency based training system should be flexible so that students can finish sooner if they put in the work. The licence should be based on a “building block” approach, using a set of core subjects, and then adding on electives to suit the needs of the apprentice or the employer. Industry Wishes
An “Authorisation” should be available on completion of the core subjects and a specific elective to allow early use of training. (Sign a CRS for their work). It should be possible to sit modules on demand or on a regular basis. Industry Wishes
Mature-age apprentices and new mechanics to the aviation industry from allied or associated industries, should have advanced standing to becoming fully qualified LAME’s, with the recognition of prior learning and industry experience. There is a need for distance education and self-study with assessments/RPL at the end for those who are unable to access full-time training. Industry Wishes

The key to the B3 licence is the principle of an established training contract between the apprentice, the training organisation and the employer. Flexibility within B3 and national recognition will allow industry to seek extension training from ANY approved (147) or recognised (CAO 100.66) organisation. Training Needs
