  1. Bell Ringer #6 – 2/10/11 Read about the economic impacts of 9/11 on page 297. • How did the government react quickly to provide for the public good? • How can the Federal Reserve affect the economy?

  2. Black History Month Project • Afr-Am Entrepreneur or Politician, can be someone you know or someone famous • You may work on your own or with a partner. Due February 23rd. • Two pieces: • Written dialogue (1-2 pages typed or printed in ink). Should include your entrepreneur/politician and the “reporter” • Dialogue performance – read to the class w/ partner or with a friend who will be the “reporter”.

  3. How can individuals impact government spending? • Voting – elect officials that will spend $$ the way you want them to and be informed about the economy. • Political Activism – Speak out, research community issues, get people together.

  4. Interest Groups • Interest Group – an organization that works to influence government policy. • Can represent diverse ethnic and minority groups, labor unions, farmers, and businesspeople. • They sometimes give $$ to political campaigns through fund raising.

  5. Lobbyists • Lobbyists – professionals hired to express a particular point of view to legislators. • They research issues for lawmakers. • Ex: Hired by cigarette companies, animal rights groups, oil companies, etc.
