  1. Integrated Pest Management What is IPM? Range of management practices using simple common sense approaches that reduce the incidence of pests and diseases on the farm. Preventative | Good agricultural practices used before planting Management | Good agricultural practices used after planting Each relies on several interventions that ensure healthy plants and improved yields for farmers.

  2. Integrated Pest Management Why is IPM important? IPM is important because weeds, pests and chemical damage can reduce yields or even eliminate crops altogether. Weeds are often the first problem you will encounter | Weeds steal light, water, and nutrients Some weeds are also alternate hosts for pests and diseases From weeds, we get more disease, pests, work and fewer yields

  3. Integrated Pest Management Preventative Management Fintrac’s IPM approach starts with preventative management | Preventing pests and diseases before they become a problem The healthier the plant, the less likely pests and diseases will cause harm.

  4. Integrated Pest Management FintracPreventative IPM Guidelines Fintracfollows IPM guidelines | Removing all weeds and alternate hosts to reduce pests and diseases Proper land preparation Crop rotation Planting live barriers, using yellow sticky traps and plastic mulch Healthy seedlings

  5. Integrated Pest Management Fintrac Management Guidelines After planting, use these practices to further reduce your pest burden | • - Good plant density • - Good water management practices • - Plant nutrition

  6. Integrated Pest Management Integrated Pest Management Practices | • Proper pest and disease identification • Early detection • Destruction of diseased plants • Scouting • Botantical and other pesticides (as a last resort)
