Mission Statement • All projects must further the mission of the JLD: The Junior League of Dallas is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. • Founded in 1922, the Junior League of Dallas trains members for effective participation in the community and is dedicated to the belief that volunteer service is an essential part of responsible citizenship.
Issue Areas Project requests should fit into one of the following categories: • Arts & Cultural Enrichment • Education • Family Preservation • Health • Poverty Intervention • Violence Intervention
Community Impact • For the 2014-2015 year (June 1, 2014 - May 31, 2015), our volunteers will contribute more than 130,000 uncompensated hours to 42 community projects and several service support committees • We give approximately $1 million annually to support nonprofits in the Dallas community • JLD members serve on more than 50 boards and community coalitions
Community Outreach 2014-2015 The Community Assistance Fund provides emergency funding to agencies that have a critical short-term need: • Agency must address critical human needs • Agency faces the possibility of disruption of a program or service • Agency has prospects for continued funding • Agency has an unforeseen need not covered by present financial resources • Funds will make a significant impact on the agency’s clients • Application is available at www.jld.net; applications are accepted throughout the year Agencies may receive a maximum of $3,500 over a two-year funding period.
Provisional Projects 2014-2015 • Projects train new members to be effective volunteers • Each project must offer 20 hours of service opportunities • Each project must support a minimum of 20 volunteers • Each project must make an immediate impact to the agency • Projects must provide an opportunity to work in a group setting • Application deadline: Friday, April 4, 2014 at noon
Kids in the Kitchen 2014-2015 • The goal of the Junior League of Dallas Kids in the Kitchen program is to empower youth in grades K-5 to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. • The program covers an eight-week curriculum that includes nutrition information, fitness activities, recipes and parent information. Application deadline: Saturday, May 31, 2014
Grants for Innovative Teaching Grants for Innovative Teaching (GFIT) is dedicated to improving education by funding unique programs designed especially for a particular school or grade level. The program is committed to the cause of better education in the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) and strives to promote opportunities for teachers and students. • All Dallas ISD educators are eligible to apply • Supports innovative teaching projects • Projects span all grade levels (K-12) and across all subject areas • Funding up to $2,000 Application deadline: Monday, May 19, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.

Required Financial Documents • Letter certifying 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status • List of current officers and Board of Directors • Certificate of insurance evidencing general liability currently in effect • Audited financials for past 3 years (new agencies) • Annual budget and balance sheet for current fiscal year • Prior Year actual revenues and expenses compared to prior year budget • Statement explaining any special/particular financial circumstances the agency wishes to be considered
Placement Perspective • The JLD offers day, evening, weekend and concentrated placement options to our members • Concentrated placements are camps, conferences, etc. • Each volunteer must complete 60 hours of service annually to remain active • Part-time option requires a 30-hour volunteer placement • Three-hour shifts seem to work best for our volunteers (20 three-hour shifts)
Placement Perspective • Agency requests must be for 10 or more volunteers • JLD does not send money to agencies without sending our volunteers • JLD volunteers are not to be involved in fundraising, medical research, political and/or religious activities • JLD representative required to hold an ex officio seat on agency’s Board • Agencies are to hold an orientation and training session prior to commencement of volunteer shifts
Board Parameters • The JLD Board of Directors establishes parameters for the R&D Committee on an annual basis • Parameters include: • Maximum number of agency projects • Minimum/maximum number of community volunteers • Total grant budget • Additional policies regarding funding guidelines, clients served, Issue Area adherence, etc.

R&D Process • March: Agency Application Workshop • April: Application Deadline - Thursday, April 17, 2014 at noon • May - June • Initial review of new agencies to ensure that key application criteria are met • Agency visits • Issue Area subcommittees meet and vote on agencies to bring to Full Committee (R&D Committee and JLD leadership) • Financial reviews for all agencies
R&D Process • July - September • Full Committee meets weekly to discuss agencies’ requests • October - November • Voting on final Community Program • R&D Full Committee reaches consensus on the agencies that will comprise the Community Program, as well as the number of volunteers and the funding amounts for each agency • Note: Committee votes separately on volunteers and funding. Each component must receive at least 75% affirmative vote to pass. • R&D’s proposed slate must then be voted on by the Board of Directors, Leadership Council and Full Membership
Top Reasons for Release • Volunteers would be unable to get 60 volunteer hours over the course of a year • Request is unorganized or insufficiently detailed • Agency does not have a volunteer coordinator or clear point of contact for our volunteers • Agency has poor financial/cash flow status • Location for volunteer request is not identified or is unclear/unsafe • Agency is not a fit within our six Issue Areas of focus
Application Process • The deadline for submitting a Community Program application is Thursday, April 17 at noon. • To download the application, go to www.jld.net and click on Community Impact, then Community Project Requests (R&D). • Applications must be submitted online; in addition, three printed copies should be delivered to JLD Headquarters by the application deadline.
Step 1: Apply for an Agency Profile (If you have already received a username and password, skip to the next step.) • Go to www.jld.net. • From the top menu, go to COMMUNITY IMPACT -> COMMUNITY PROJECT REQUESTS. • Click on the link “Apply for an Agency Profile”. • Complete as much of the information as possible, but only the fields marked with an asterisk are required. • When creating your Login Information, you must check that the Username you have chosen is available before hitting Submit. NOTE: Agency information is submitted to the JLD for approval. Once approved, you will receive an email at the Primary Contact email address confirming that the Agency Profile has been created. Do not continue to the next step until you have received this confirmation.
Step 2: Agency Home Page Login Go to www.jld.net; at the top of the screen, enter your username and password.

Step 3: Update Profile Information Before submitting an application, please review the existing contact information for your agency and make sure it is up to date. To update the agency profile information, click on PROFILE from the top menu. Complete as much of the information as possible, but only the fields marked with an asterisk are required. Click Submit at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
Step 4: Download an Application From the Agency Home Page, click on RESOURCES. On this page, you will find a link to the latest grant application; click on the link to download the application file. Note: You should save the file to your computer and edit it in Word. Once complete, you can move on to the next step.
Step 5: Submit an Assistance Request From the Agency Home Page, click on APPLY NOW. Select a Community Program (in this case, R&D 2014-2015). Enter the amount of Funds Requested and the Number of Volunteers Requested. Click Choose File to select the completed application you downloaded from Step 4. NOTE: This file MUST be saved as a PDF before uploading. Click Submit to submit your application. If the application was submitted successfully, you will receive a confirmation at the top of the screen. You will also receive an email confirmation at your Primary Contact’s email address. NOTE: To view your application to verify that it was uploaded, click on the link on the confirmation screen.
Next Steps • The Agency Home Page and Calendar will be updated with grant process information. • JLD teams will review your application and contact you if they need additional information. Note: Specific application status will NOT be posted on the website.
