  1. John Betjeman (1906-1984) English poet, writer & broadcaster Betjeman combined piety (being very religious) with a nagging uncertainty about the truth of Christianity.

  2. U.A. Fanthorpe (1929-2009) English poet (also worked as hospital clerk) Fanthorpe became very interested in how hospitals could reduce people and their experiences to a few notes, known by doctors as 'case histories'.

  3. Dorothy Molloy (1942-2004) Irish poet (worked as historical researcher & painter) Her poems have a strong female voice and use black humour to make a point. 

  4. Stevie Smith (1902-1971) English poet & writer Stevie Smith was often preoccupied by death and religion but drew on fairy tales, nursery rhymes and legends in her work.
