The Green Feast A Reading Genie Book by Geri Murray
Mom made a feast. Jan set each place with plates and cups for the meal.
Nate picked at the meat and the greens. He said, “I will eat the beef, but not the greens. Greens make me mean. I just eat sweets."
Jan ate her greens. "Sweets are bad for the teeth," she said. "Nate will be weak if he just eats sweets.
Nate said, “I can see the treat, but I still can not eat the greens.”
Mom had baked a sweet peach dish. Tim and Jan got to eat the sweet peaches.
Nate tasted a green and made a face. "Ick! Slim can eat these." Mom said, "If Slim eats the greens, Slim gets the peaches."
It was late, but Mom came to Nate with a small, sweet cake. "Mmm" said Nate. "I will eat cake, even green cake. Thanks!"
When Nate ate the cake, Jan said, "Mom is such a sneak. You just ate greens!" Nate said, "She is a sneak! But oh well, they were sweet."
