Questions from the poem Telephone Conversation. How does the Tone change throughout? What is the effect of sibilance in the poem? Why have so many references to colours and light been used? What is this poem about in 3-4 sentences. What is the subject? How does the writer feel about the subject?
Motif: a recurring subject, theme, idea, etc. Alliteration: the repetition of a consonant sound. Repetition: repeating words, phrases or images to emphasise them. Imagery: pictures in your head created by the words. Direct Speech: the reporting of speech by repeating the actual words of a speaker.
1.What is the theme of the poem? 2. Who is the poet talking to? 3. Why is the title/opening line a good one? 4. Thinking about the other poems in the anthology. Which other poems can you relate this to? Either in style, content, themes…It might be a good idea to list these.
Mood and Tone This is a sombre (sad), emotional poem with a strong message. Does it end on a positive or depressing note? What sorts of emotions is it intended to evoke (bring out) in the reader? What does it evoke for you? What are five adjectives you could use to describe the tone of the piece?
