Well, let me introduce you, Peaky Peak trek, a newly discovered trekking route in Khumbu region that lives to every bit of your fantasy. Located in the Khumbu region, the trek ultimately lets us soak in the up-close view of Everest and mesmerizing landscapes of lower Khumbu. Pikey Peak, also known as Pikey Danda lies at a considerable altitude of 4,065 meters, so although it is the peak, technically it counts to be a trekking destination. The trails to Pikey Peak is a recently discovered one, however, in this short time span, the trek has garnered visitors beyond expectation. What makes this trek so special? What lures the trekkers to this part of the trail? Let us unravel them. WHAT PIKEY PEAK HAS FOR YOU? Stunning Sequence of Mountains Yes, of course, trekking in Nepal basically leads you to higher altitude region from where you can witness the seamless sequence of the mountain range. Pikey Peak trek is no different, but the intriguing part is, despite its lesser elevation compared to popular treks in Nepal, it lets you observe the some of the tallest mountains in the world amongst others.

It will be a great place to ease your tiredness and offer prayers in these sacred sites. You might even see the lama and nuns humming their prayers with soulful sounds. Also, these monasteries not only represents faith and belief; they are also a marvel of exquisite architecture. Paradise for mountain-biking This is the next best thing about Pikey Peak; they not only offer great trekking trails but also biking trails. You will face the mountains so close that you might just touch them. Paddling forward you will fell the chilly air and crips ground with frost under your tires and that moment is when the raw beauty of this trail will hit you. However, as you scale up, over 4,000 meters, it takes your extra effort as you have to hike above that height, but this last push before the summit of Pikey peak will be more rewarding. Once you have been to the top and start descending, you will forget the aching and pain. Even with trekking it is not an easy task, and biking to Pikey peak at 4,068 meters can be more challenging, but seeing the mountains so close can rejuvenate you.

3. It is a short trek What is more appealing about Pikey Peak trek is, it is a short trek of maximum eight days. Imagine exploring everything mentioned above and more just within days. If your stay is coming to an end, but you aren’t done yet, then Pikey Peak trek is an excellent destination to mark the end of the adventure in Nepal. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR PIKEY PEAK TREK? Pikey Peak trek can be embarked on on any season of the year. Although September, October, November, December, March, April, May; this month will prove to be the best time. The weather is wonderful, days are clear, the picturesque view won’t be obstructed in these time of year. Now, about the rest of the month, they won’t be so perfect, but still, the trek is doable. CAN YOU GO TO EVEREST BASE CAMP FORM PIKEY PEAK TREK? Well, it is possible to embark on Pikey Peak trek as well as Everest Base Camp at the same attempt. However, it will easily take more than 20 days. But if you are on for a full-on adventure, then this might be the best way to go. Flying off to Lukla is the typical way of starting the Everest Base Camp trek. But instead, you can fly to Phaplu and land at Phaplu airport. Then, you can make your way to Pikey peak and come back to Phalpu and now with an extra 4-5 days of trekking you will reach Lukla and start another fresh trek to Everest Base Camp. Or either, you do the other way around, whichever suits you the best. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT ROUTES TO PIKEY PEAK TREK? Trekking is just like a mathematical problem; there are different ways to solve it. Pikey peak is definitely the ultimate destination, but you can choose the itinerary depending on your limited time, budget and health issues. Here are some of the top routes typically chosen by trekkers of Pikey Peak; however these are not the “standard route,” you can customize if you want. Kathmandu – Dhap - Pikey Peak – Phalpu - Kathmandu This is the general route to Pikey Peak which starts with a ride to Dhap form Kathmandu. In total it takes seven days starting from Dhap to Jhapre and gradually making our way towards Pikey Peak. After Pikey Peak we make slow descend to Junberi, where we will explore Thubtenchoeling Monastery. Then after a day of hiking, we will arrive at Phalpu from where Kathmandu will be the next stop. We will visit the famous Chiwong Monastery at Phalpu. Kathmandu – Phalpu – Pikey Peak – Shivalaya – Jiri Bazaar – Kathmandu

4. This route extends the few days than the above one and takes around ten or more days. Taking a flight to Phalpu instead of getting a ride is another popular way to start the Pikey Peak trek. From Phalpu, we get towards Pikey Peak; then after about three days of descent, we arrive at Shivalaya and to Jiri Bazaar. Flying to Phalpu and getting to Pikey Peak might be popular, but the return journey isn’t always the same. After Pikey Peak, you can also get to Jase Bhanjyang to Junberi and back to Phalpu. Kathmandu – Shivalaya – Pikey Peak – Junbesi – Salleri – Kathmandu This is the longest route amongst the three of our list that takes around fifteen days to complete. After 7-8 hours of ride from Kathmandu to Shivalaya, we will get pass many villages like Bhandar, Namkhali, and Ngamor Gompa before we make it to Pikey Peak. Even after the peak, the trail is different and leads us to Junbesi, from where it takes three days to arrive at Salleri. Now, Salleri marks the almost end of Pikey Peak trek, and we will get back to Kathmandu taking a bus/jeep.
