The gas planets There are four gas planets in our sola system. They are the four largest planets in our solar system. Gas planets are, just as their name describes, made up of mostly gases and very little solids. They are sometimes called Jovian planets, and name created after the planet Jupiter, which means giant planet. Gas planets are divided into two groups, the “traditional” gas planets and ice giants.
Jupiter Background: http://www.emanueleferonato.com/images/space1.jpg Image: http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/public/planets/gif/jup/jupiter.gif 5th planet in our solar system It is the largest planet Its mass is less than 1/1000 then the suns mass Its made up mostly by hydrogen and helium. Considered a traditional gas planet.
Saturn background: http://www.emanueleferonato.com/images/space1.jpg Image:http://www.gasplanet.com/saturn.html 6th planet from the sun It is the second largest in the solar system Its oblong shape is because of its lower density and rapid rotation Made mostly of hydrogen and helium. Considered a traditional gas planet. Saturn’s axis is tilted 27 degrees.
Uranus background: http://www.emanueleferonato.com/images/space1.jpg Image: http://www.gasplanet.com/uranus.html 7th planet from the sun. It is the coldest planet in the solar system, the min temp is 49k (−224°C). The interior of the planet is much different then Jupiter and Saturn., it is considered and ice giant. Made of water, methane and ammonia.
Neptune Background: http://www.emanueleferonato.com/images/space1.jpg Image: http://www.gasplanet.com/neptune.html 8th planet from the sun. Like Uranus, its mostly rocks and ice, there are traces of methane around the outside, giving Neptune its blue color. Different interior from Jupiter and Saturn, it is considered an ice giant. Made up of water, methane and ammonia, just like Uranus.
Instructions • The rings will be the CD, we will decorate the side with the writing/picture • Try not to get glitter in the center (clear part) of the cd, that is were you will glue the styrofoam ball. • Use a paint brush to spread the glue around if you want • You can also use just the glue bottle to make the rings look seperated. • You may also use some of the yarn to show the divisions in the rings. It would be easier to glue on the yarn before doing the glitter. • Now its time to decorate your planet. • Same as above use the paint brush to spread around the glue. • To make it hang, open up one of the small paper clips, half way. • Since we know that Saturn’s axis it tilted 27 degrees, we will be putting the paper clip on top, but tilted. Make sure that the paper clip goes through the center of the CD. • Then you can tie a piece of thread to the end of your paper clip and hang it where ever you would like and enjoy!
