  6. Usefulness and interest Psychology – the science of the human mind and behaviour. Should be easy? “Why do we have to do stats?” Problem solving – Roger Watt at Stirling. Psychological literacy.

  7. What do psychology students want? Bromnick and Horowitz (2013) – helping role; Aspirations towards professional Psychology (15-20% achieve this); Other thoughts?

  8. Psychology of learning Behaviour shaping, reinforcement; Grades. What do we want to reinforce? How can we do that?

  9. Cognitive models Levels of processing; Deep vs surface/strategic models; Cognitive load; “Catch and hold” attention; Trial and error learning.

  10. Assessment The driver for learning – “is that on the exam?” How can we harness it?

  11. Learning about learning • Metacognition; • Realistic academic self-efficacy; • Attribution theory; • Social learning and role models. • How do I facilitate this in students? • How do I develop myself? • Measurement tools?

  12. What next? How can we improve our own use of Psychology in learning and teaching? Can we develop our own psychological literacy?
