Eyewitnesses testified of the resurrection. • 6 Independent accounts (Gospels, Paul, Peter) • The NT is a collection of letters written and circulated within the lifetime of those who could have refuted the accounts. Cf. Acts 4:16; 26:24-26 • Acts 1:1-3, 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 • Acts 10:39-41, John 20:24-28
Eyewitnesses • Paul had been a violent opponent of Jesus. Acts 8:1; 9:1-2; 22:4 • James, the Lord’s brother • John 7:5 “even His brothers did not believe in Him.” • Became a leader in the church at Jerusalem, Acts 15:13-21 • Wrote an epistle in the canon.

The changed lives of the apostles. • In Acts 2, courageous apostles. • Acts 2:4, 14 • But they had been cowards and unbelievers in the resurrection. • Mark 14:49-50 • John 20:19 • Luke 24:10-11 • They taught the resurrection to the point of death.

Why would one knowingly die for a lie? • What did they have to gain? • Not money – Acts 3:6 • Not power – 5:40-41 • Not to be revered personally – Acts 3:12, 14:11-16

The empty tomb • Thousands in Jerusalem were converted, and Jesus’ enemies couldn’t stop it. • The Jews couldn’t produce the body of Jesus. • The tomb’s location was known. • It was sealed and heavily guarded. Matthew 27:63-66 • Had to tell lies to explain its emptiness. Matthew 28:11-15
