  5. Government power • In power since 14 February 2010 • Was voted into power • Was inaugurated in 17 February 2010

  6. Voting irregularities • Yes, accusations of electoral fraud • Orange revolution

  7. Democracy and Constitution • Democracy since 1991 • Declaration of independence 1991

  8. Equality and Minority Rights • Have equality between gender • Have a form on bilingualism between Ukrainian and Russian

  9. Suffrage • 18 or older • Universal

  10. Corruption • Wide spread and growing problem

  11. Judicial Separation • Although judicial independence exists in principle, in practice there is little separation of juridical and political powers

  12. Freedoms, Human Rights • Freedom of the press exists but recently is starting to be limited. • Rights and freedoms do exist but are often being denied.

  13. Capital punishment. • Abolished February 2000 after the Constitutional Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in December 1999. New criminal code passed in April 2001

  14. Democratic Rating • Liberal rating 4/10 • System rating 7/10 • Overall rating 5.5/10
