Judicial Separation • Although judicial independence exists in principle, in practice there is little separation of juridical and political powers
Freedoms, Human Rights • Freedom of the press exists but recently is starting to be limited. • Rights and freedoms do exist but are often being denied.
Capital punishment. • Abolished February 2000 after the Constitutional Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in December 1999. New criminal code passed in April 2001
