MOU Extending the MFA in Creative Writing from OSU-Corvallis to OSU-Cascades Executive Summary: This proposal seeks to create a 2-year MFA in Creative Writing at OSU-Cascades that mimics the Advanced Creative Writing workshop side of the OSU-Corvallis version. This program will be Low-Residency, that is, students will not need to live in Bend fulltime, and instead will visit Bend four times in two years to confer face-to-face with their mentors. This is not meant to duplicate the Corvallis version of the MFA, but to add diversity to it. Rationale: This is a degree that is expected to be in demand. It will leverage the Annual Literary Festival in Bend’s “The Nature of Words” 1 . 1 http://thenatureofwords.org The mission of The Nature of Words is to strengthen and support the literary arts and humanities in Oregon and the Northwest through community interaction with acclaimed authors and through creative writing programs for students and adults.
MOU Extending the MFA in Creative Writing from OSU-Corvallis to OSU-Cascades Classes: 36 credits in Advanced Fiction Writing / Advanced Poetry Writing 12 credits in Literary Craft courses 12 credits in writing the Thesis and/or Writing and Conference Impacts to Students: Good for students. This program is designed for students who cannot attend the university fulltime. Budget Impacts: A Director will be hired, however, most of the budget is travel and living expenses for the mentors during the residency periods. Note: much of the cost budget scales with the number of students paying tuition.

MOU Extending the MFA in Creative Writing from OSU-Corvallis to OSU-Cascades Issues: Why yet another MFA in Creative Writing? This program is unique. It will leverage, and contribute to, Bend’s Annual Literary Festival in The Nature of Words. The festival already attracts well-known authors. The hope is that those authors would then become mentors for the program. Quality? This program will not live in a vacuum. Various faculty from Corvallis will be involved. Also, a board will monitor the quality of the program. How long is each residency? Nine days -- this lets you only miss one week of work at a time (Sat-Sun-Mon-Tue-Wed-Thu-Fri-Sat-Sun) CC Vote: The Curriculum Council approved this proposal, with no dissenting votes.
MOU Extending the BS/BA in Accountancy fromOSU-Corvallis to OSU-Cascades Executive Summary: This proposal seeks to create a BS/BA in Accountancy at OSU-Cascades. Rationale: There is a nationwide need for more accountancy majors. This is expected to especially be true with the business growth in the Bend area. Impacts to Students: Only good. For those students living in the Bend area, this will allow them to earn their degree locally.

This person will teach 5 of the 8 new classes that will need to be created. Instructors will be hired to teach the other 3. Note: lower division requirements will be met with COCC courses, at no cost to OSU-Cascades.
