2012 DECLARATIONS • I understand that my life’s results will be a by-product of my choices; therefore I will expect what I consistently reflect. • I understand that I make the best decisions when the subject matter is fully illuminated. In short, I need to stop dressing in the dark.
1 Samuel 17:8-11 • Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” 10 Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.” 11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
Driving Without A License • The U.S. has over 6 million car crashes each year causing 230 billion dollars in damage. 2.9 million people are injured and approx. 43,000 people are killed annually. • Driving without a license has become a widespread problem in every state. While there is no way to tell how many people are driving illegally, more than 12, 000 people are convicted of this crime in Md. per year and the number is growing. • Having a license means you have been authorized by a governing body to be fit to operate a vehicle and to be insured if you are in an accident.
A License • A Person can only get a license when he/she has reached the legal age. • He/she must first pass a “Written Test” • You must pass a “Vision Test” • And you must pass a “Road Test”
My Notes • Think about how much damage could be done by someone unqualified to drive can do on the highway with you and I? • Well What if I told you that many of the problems in our society are being caused by “unskilled, unauthorized, unlicensed drivers” • You see you can’t tell who is license or not by initially sight… but sooner or later they will not understand a sign and go down the wrong way and damage somebody for a lifetime….
King Saul • Saul was chosen because the children of Israel wanted to be like “other nations” • “now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” (I Samuel 8:4) • They rejected the “authorizing body” God to lead them…Even after being warned of what an unlicensed driver would do, they insisted on giving him the keys… • But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us.20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” (19verse)
Here Comes Goliath • Goliath represents your enemy whose shear massive size, strength, and intimidation seeks to inhibit you living an abundant life in Christ… • He is 9’ 6” tall by some accounts and has called you and your God out. Choose A Man He says to represent you…..Winner Takes All.. • For 40 days he taunts them ( A season)
How Big Is Our Goliath? • Tonight approx. 15 million children live below the poverty level…That’s almost 1 in 4. • Unemployment among African American men 20 years and older is 14.2 percent and 35.8 percent for black teenagers 16-19, higher than any other ethnic group. • 21million American children and adults suffer from depression and is the principle cause for more than 30,000 suicides each year. It is the 3rd leading cause of death among individuals between15-24. Women are 70% more likely to experience this. • Americans spend over $90 billion dollars total on alcohol each year. • Since No Child Left Behind was instituted in 2002 more children are left behind putting them on the street with a High School Diploma that is almost worthless.
Who Will Go Out And Fight This “Giant”? • The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 16 But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— 17except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”( Genesis 2:15-17 NLT) • Who did Goliath ask to come down and fight him? Who did God place in the Garden to help it grow and to protect it? • Then where was Saul when his nation needed him to lead them? “Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.”
Don’t send a Boy To Do a Man’s Job • Every ill in our society has it traces back to the failure and\or failures of the “MALE MAN” and nothing will turn this situation around until Saul is replaced with David. • The Male Man is irreplaceable and is effect on every aspect of human society is unmistakable. • He took the Vision Test- He saw that Goliath was nothing in the sight of God and could easily be beaten. • He took the Written Test-He meditated on God’s word day and night. • He took the Road Test- He had experience protecting from the Lion and the Bear…
