  4. Action of Drug High doses of Ketamine • hallucinogenic (trippy) effect • Feeling of being far away from your own body • K-Hole – similar to a “bad trip” on LSD

  5. History and Medical Use • Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic developed in 1963 to replace PCP • It was created to be a human anesthetic • Still used as a general anesthetic for children and persons of poor health • Ketamine is most commonly used in veteranary medicine

  6. Description and Schedule Rating • Ketamine is manufactured as a liquid to be injected. • The liquid ketamine is also evaporated and cooked in to a powder to be snorted.

  8. Physiological Effects The physiological effects of Ketamine include… • Initial energy rush • Numbness in extremities • Irregular muscle coordination Large amounts of Ketamine can cause • Anesthesia • Muscle Spasm • Taken with alcohol can cause vomiting

Psychological Effects Some psychological effects of Ketamine include… • Decreased awareness of general environment • sedation • dream-like state • vivid dreams • feelings of invulnerability • increased distractibility, disorientation, and subjects are generally uncommunicative. • Intense hallucinations • impaired thought processes • out-of-body experiences • changes in perception about body, surroundings, time and sounds. • Delirium and hallucinations can be experienced after awakening from anesthesia.
