  1. Letswork together to stop Crime!2010 is around the corner

  2. The Coretalk Product • Bi Directional SMS communication • Tracks communications • Immediate communication • Wireless Communication, no telephone or internet needed • Cell phone signal is the only requirement • Mass & Group Communication • Printable record of all sent and received communication with accountability

  3. Where SMS Crime Started • Nalin Pillay Endeavour Protection services used the Coretalk SMS system in his business. • He identified a need where this system could be used to assist in reducing crime! • By doing this we would be empowering the public. • Therefore more community involvement making it more difficult for criminals to prosper. • Coretalk in conjunction with Mr. Pillay embarked on a proof of concept at the Chatsworth Police station at there cost! • Launch with ETV and all press to assist with marketing of number. 083 4 48 58 68 (Click on image to See attached ETV footage)

  4. OUR OBJECTIVE 1. Assist in reducing crime (World Cup Soccer 2010). 2. Working with the SAPS providing better communication. 3. Empower public in the fight against crime. 4. History and tracking of communication by number. 5. Getting one number that can be marketed. 6. Save one life its worth it.

  5. 1.Assist in reducing crime (World Cup Soccer 2010)? • We have the vehicle to assist in this process. • 1 Month 500 crime related incidents reported by public in Chatsworth alone with the volume of SMS reports increasing daily. • Arrests where made due to the system being in place. • Criminals are more uneasy as to who will report them.

  6. 2.Working with the SAPS providing better communication • System gives Audit trail off communication, this will alleviate the prank calls which occur on the 10111. • Reduce hoax number, hoax numbers can be traced. • If cant get through on 10111 then an sms can be sent • People do not have the time to hold for an operator. • Rather report crime by sms saving time, than not have the crime reported at all.

  7. 3.Empower public to assist in fighting crime • People have embraced the system. • Children are sending in messages, it gives them a voice. • More eyes and ears out there. • Criminals will be more wary and will limit their associations. • People will give tip offs before crime occurs. • SMS of congratulations when arrests are made. • People can all contribute in preventing crime.

  8. 4.History and tracking of communication by number • Measurability and Accountability for SAP. • Track who has been effective in reporting crime. • E.G. of SMS messages received.

  9. 5. One national number that can be marketed • We have joined forces with “Look for Me” to have one number which can be marketed nationally e.g. 33911. • This will assist in tracing where an SMS message has come from in the event that the victim does not have the time to insert an address. • By having one number, the SMS can be routed to the nearest tower, and intern the nearest Police station, this will speed up response times. • The same technology can track the cell phone of a SMS victim, in the event of a hijacking.

  10. 6.Save one life its worth it! • If we can save one life the cost is well justified. • SMS Crime has already saved one persons life who wanted to commit suicide. • Following is the actual SMS Message/s received, to which the SAPS responded.

  11. Proof Of Concept • Chatsworth Police station statistics • Drug dealers reported = 90 • Suspicious People = 19 • Suspicious or abandoned Vehicle = 11 • Illegal Shabeen or sale of Alcohol = 23 • Unlicensed Fire Arms = 13 • Drunk or reckless driving = 12 • Gunshots Fired = 3 • Drunk in Public and public disturbance = 30 • Robbery or house breaking in progress = 11 • Vehicle theft in progress = 18 • Assault and life threats = 11 • Gang related fighting = 2 • iIlegal Gambling = 1 • Thank you’s and congratulations = 6

  12. Example of SMS’s Received

  13. Conclusion • We are aware police are doing a sterling job to stop the so called 6 million illegal agents. • 999 of 1000 people are law abiding Citizens. • We want to assist SAP in getting rid of the 20/30 thousand bad criminals • We are aware that crime in many western countries is far worse than SA. • This system will assist in the good work been done thus far. • Crime will be reduced making SA a safer place and an attractive tourist destination boosting the economy and creating more employment • Potentially business could pay for this system. • Providing a safer environment and improving quality of life for all. • Striving for a safer and successful 2010 world cup reducing bad publicity due to crime.

  14. Article from Britain • Crime pays for police informants in Britain • Tuesday 2nd May 2006 • LONDON, April 28, 2006 (AFP) - Crime pays in new ways in southeast England where police are rewarding informants with 10 pounds (14 euros, 18 dollars) in mobile phone credits for useful tip-offs via text messaging. Sussex Police have set up a special number to take information on crimes from members of the public via SMS messaging, under a pilot scheme called "Textme" that is aimed at young people. "We log the information from each text we receive and subject them to proper investigation," said inspector Mark Piper, who thought up the idea. "If the information proves useful, we respond with a thank you and tell them we would like to give them 10 pounds credit" -- worth about 100 text messages on the typical pay-as-you-go cell phone. "The great thing about this scheme is that you could be walking down the street and text in about a crime without anyone knowing." Nine text messages were received on the first day of Textme this week, including information on car crime and possible drug dealing. Police will only try to trace informants in case of serious crime such as murder. • www.haveeru.com.mv/?page=engdetails&id=73...
