Key Achievements…CPO 1 • 6.2% of Junior High Schools certified as HIV ALERT • 36% of MDAs implementing HIV work place policies and programmes • 82% of UN staff participated in UNLS workshops • Costed Capacity Development Plan developed for NAP+ • National stigma reduction campaign supported [Task team meetings/ToT] • Promotion and provision of 3 million male condoms including during CAN 2008 • HIV prevention services provided to refugees and mobile populations in Central, Western and Volta regions UNAIDS

Key Achievements…CPO 2 • Support for scaling up towards Universal Access (Please note that data is cumulative and is as at Dec 31 , 2008) • ART sites 95 (2007) ; 117 (2008) • CT sites 422 (2007) ; 524 (2008) • No. of people completing CT 306,3762 (2007) ; 773,148 (2008) • PMTCT sites 408 (2007); 507 (2008) • PLHIV on ART 13,429 (2007) ; 23,614 (2008) • No. of HIV+ Pregnant women on ART 2,896 (2007) ; 9,124 (2008) • Supportive supervision and monitoring of HIV service delivery sites and HSS ante-natal sites nationwide UNAIDS

Key Achievements…CPO 3 • MTR UNDAF 2006-2010 and M-SHAP conducted • NASA 2007 and Modes of Transmission conducted; • Gender and HIV Assessment initiated • National costed M&E roadmap finalized • GFATM R8 proposal and 2009 APOW developed • JPR, JISM conducted; PF & BM held; 2008 WAD celebrated • Facilitation/participation in (12) working groups/task teams – ETWG, UA, Stigma Reduction, Surveillance, most-at-risk-populations, etc UNAIDS

Lessons learnt…1 • Allows for the best use of comparative advantages of agencies and improves complimentarity • Promotes the UN speaking with ‘one voice’ and concrete steps towards attaining ‘one UN’ • Coordinated and harmonized approach to national HIV response • Enhanced provision of TA and recognition as entry point for national stakeholders to access TA UNAIDS

  11. Lessons learnt…2 5. Improved info sharing and communication between agencies & stakeholders 6. Common and shared understanding of the national response 7. Increased visibility of the UN’s support to national HIV response 8. JUNPS/JUTA recognized best practice of Joint Programming by UN system and key stakeholders UNAIDS

Key activities jointly implemented (Based on comparative advantage and lead agency) - UN Learning Strategy Programme (ILO) - Parliamentary Forum on HIV and AIDS (UNDP/UNAIDS) - SRH Literacy & CT among female porters (Kayayes) (UNFPA) - Stigma reduction activities (UNAIDS) - Annual Programme of Work task team (UNAIDS) - Gender and HIV assessment (UNIFEM) - HIV & AIDS in the Education Sector (UNESCO) UNAIDS

Challenges - Commitment from agencies is unequal • Timely and quality in reporting and feedback - Limited communication between UNTG and JUTA - Accessing available resources - UN administrative/bureaucratic procedures and processes - Commitment at country level not evident at regional and global levels - Weak capacity of GAC and Implementing Partners - Limited access and low uptake of HIV services UNAIDS

Way forward - UNRC, UNTG, UCC, JUTA Continue to advocate and support functioning of Joint Teams as entry point for TA of the UN - UNTG, UCC, JUTA Initiate planning of JUNPS 2010-11 Continue and improve implementation, reporting and monitoring of JUNPS - HoAs Incorporate participation in JUTA on focal point’s PER Facilitate timely reporting on JUNPS from agencies to UCO Promote de-briefing on JUTA activities by focal points and briefing of HoAs before UNTG - UNTG Chair , UCC Initiate monthly meetings to facilitate info sharing and communication Discuss key recommendations of JUTA meetings with UNTG and provide feedback UNAIDS
