What is soil exhaustion? • Soil exhaustion is when plants of the same species are raised in the same area of land on generation after another. • After a while the soils’ quality decreases and this results in the reduction of certain nutrients, stunted growth in the plant and a smaller harvest. • This can me avoided by regularly changing the location of crop growth and using manure.
Land degradation • This the process by which the land is ruined by human activity • It is caused by actions such as deforestation, urban sprawl and land pollution • This is a widely discussed topic as food shortages seem a rising threat • To improve this situation we could reduce the demand for wood, recycle and overall be more environmentally minded.
How does it relate? • These two relate because in both instances they affect food production.
