Objective of this presentation: To discuss my understanding of the Carolina Star Annual Report; To explain how I approached the report as a first-time author; To describe what I found challenging and helpful. How did I find out about the Annual Report?How did I find out about the Annual Report?

    4. What is the Star Annual Report? An evaluation of a facility’s performance against Health & Safety criteria: Safety and Health Goals, Objective and Performance; Safety and Health Management System Performance; Injury and Illness Incident Rate Data;

    5. What does the report also contain? Process Safety Management (PSM) Program information Success Stories and Best Practices Mentoring Efforts Updated Company Information

    6. How did I start the report? Working as a Team (EHSS Team Leader and EHSS Engineer) With section D: Special Safety and Health Program Information This includes describing the 14 elements of the facility’s Process Safety Management (PSM) Program. Developed 14 sub-headings, one for each element and reported on the progress made on each element during the previous year.

    8. How did I continue the report? Wrote section A: Safety and Health Goals, Objective and Performance with the Site Manager. Wrote section B: Evaluation of Safety and Health Management System Performance Calculated TRC and DART for section C: Injury and Illness Incident Rate Data Continued with Sections E: Success Stories and Best Practices; F: Mentoring Efforts; G: Updated Company Information

    9. How did I finish the report? With a cover letter from the facility Site Manager.

    10. What did I find Challenging and Helpful? Challenging Writing a report for a facility that I had only joined in mid-October! Controlling the word count in the 14 elements of PSM. Helpful The letter from NCDOL explaining the requirements. Not looking at the previous year’s report until after writing my first draft.
