Safe Arrival • We have a Safe Arrival Program to ensure our students get to school safely. Any student who is not present in class by 8:15 a.m. will be recorded as tardy. If your child is not in class and we do not have an excuse you will get a call. • Please send a written excuse after your child has been absent from school. If you know ahead of time please call and leave a phone message or e-mail for the day of absence with Mrs. McGill. • If your child is too sick to go outside then he/she should not be at school.
Bussing • The school district requires written 24 hour notice if you are going to change your child’s permanent bus stop to another permanent stop. • For bussing details please see Mrs. Bliss.

Phys. Ed • Students receive Phys. Ed. every day • Chris Roach, Jamie Henderson and myself • Students should dress in comfortable clothing

Art • Every Friday • Students should not dress in their best clothes on these days.

Word Work • Spelling • Encourage your child to use invented spelling at home • Differentiated spelling lists will be coming home soon for you to work on with your child. • Sight Words • Please consult the list to view your child’s needs.
Homework • There will be homework Monday to Thursday each week. All homework should be returned every day. • 20 minutes per night • Spelling, math facts, reading (RAH RAH), writing, a math/literacy sheet.
Assessment • Students will be evaluated in three ways: • Through observations/anecdotal notes/interviews and conferencing with individual students • Through monitoring of in-class work and participation • Through various tests and student portfolios • Report cards will be sent home in November, March, and June. • There is a grade two provincial reading and writing assessment which will be administered in late May/early June.
Class Rules • Please see our posted classroom rules. • Classroom discipline: • Positive behaviour is rewarded in various ways - (“STAR” over the announcements, sticker chart, Worker Bee Bucket, verbal praise, free time, certificates, etc.) • Negative behaviour is addressed with a strike system resembling a stoplight. • 1st time - warning • 2nd time – car moves to yellow light • 3rd time – car moves to red light – time out • All strikes are erased at each section of the day. • There is a school wide discipline policy.
Field Trips • There will be some opportunities for the children to go on field trips. A few that support our curriculum outcomes are: • Kings Landing Christmas program • Playhouse
Nutrition • Children should bring a small, healthy snack along with a nutritious lunch to school each day (no lunch on Wednesday). • We are not able to heat or reheat lunches. • Hot lunch will be available on Thursdays beginning in October. Watch for a menu in the October newsletter. • Milk will be available beginning in October. Payment is due the last Thursday of the month for the next month. • Popcorn is available on Fridays beginning Oct.7-$1.00 • WE ARE A NUT AND NUT PRODUCT FREE SCHOOL.
Scholastic Book Order • I will be sending home flyers for book orders once a month. This is a great way to support your child’s reading at home as well as at school.
Housekeeping Items • Medications • Birthday invitations • Fostering independence • Labeling items (books, clothing, footwear, money, etc.) • Lice • Toys at school • Rest
